# Version 0.54.0

> October 7, 2026

## Features

* **The serial-port listing of the Lager Box now says what each port is.** Each cable record
from `GET /custom-devices/list` gets five new fields: `manufacturer`, `product`, `interface`,
`by_id` and `by_path`. A field is `null` when the Lager Box cannot read it. Every existing
field keeps its name and value. `by_id` and `by_path` are the `/dev/serial/...` names, which
stay the same when a replug renumbers the tty. `interface` tells apart the ports of one
multi-port chip. `lager nets assign --list` shows the product and the durable path of each
cable. The fields come from the Lager Box code, so run `lager update` on each box to get them.

## Bug Fixes

* **`lager install` and `lager uninstall` left an old SSH key-sync poller running on the box.**
A poller from an earlier run kept rebuilding `~/.ssh/authorized_keys` until the box rebooted.
After a reinstall, the poller sometimes removed registered keys. The box now names the poller
`lager-ssh-sync`, and each install stops every earlier poller. `lager uninstall` stops the
poller in Step 1.
* **`lager install` and `lager update` sometimes left the box locked.** The command released its
box lock with one request after it restarted the box services. Sometimes that request arrived
before the service answered, so the lock stayed in place for its full TTL. For an install, the
TTL is one hour. The command now retries the release for up to 90 seconds. If the release still
fails, the command prints the `lager boxes unlock` command that clears the lock.

## Known Limitations

* **Two identical adapters with no USB serial number share one `by_id` name.** udev keeps one
link for the shared name, so only one of the two cables reports `by_id`. Use `by_path` for a
cable whose `serial` is `null`.
